How to write - protect your USB

Many a time, it becomes necessary for us to write protect our USB flash drive so as to protect it from viruses and other malware programs. Because flash drives are so popular and most widely used to move data between computers, they are the prime target for attackers as a means to get infections spread around the computer world. Also, since USB drive is not a Read-Only Memory (ROM), the data inside it can easily be modified or deleted by malware programs.
But unfortunately, most of the new flash drives do not come with a write-protect feature as the manufacturers wish to cut down the cost of production. Hence, the only way to write-protect your USB flash drives is to enable this feature on your own computer.
This can be done by adding a small entry to the Windows registry which acts as a switch that can be enabled to make use of the write protection or disabled to allow write access. Just follow these steps:
1. Open the Registry Editor (Open the “Run” dialog box, type regedit and hit “Enter”).
2. Navigate to the following Registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\
 3. Create a New Key named as StorageDevicePolicies. To do this right-click onControl, and click on New->Key and name it as StorageDevicePolicies.
4. Now right-click on  StorageDevicePolicies and create a New->DWORD (32-bit) Valueand name it as WriteProtect.
Write-Protect USB Drive

5. Double-click on WriteProtect and set the Value data to 1.
Now the right-protection for USB drives is enabled on your computer (no restart required) and thus it would not be possible for anyone or any program to add/delete the contents from your USB flash drive. Any attempt to copy or download the files onto the USB drive will result in the following error message being displayed.

To revert and remove the write-protection, all you need to do is just change the Value data for WriteProtect (Step-5) from 1 back to 0. Now write access to all the USB devices is re-enabled.

How to run android apps on windows pc

If you love Android apps so much to the point you feel like running them on your personal computer, then Bluestacks app player is what you’re probably looking for. The possibility of running Android applications has always been an exciting but the first method I found might look a bit hard especially if you’re not a techie. With Bluestacks, running your favourite Android applications on Windows OS is easy as running the apps on your Android smartphone though some of the fun of running touch screen apps is lost while using a mouse and keyboard combo. Apps like Pulse still feels definitely useful considering the odds.

With Android itself being a semi-open platform for developers to turn to an interesting playground, running Android applications with an emulator on PC is quite a laudable effort to broaden users experience. Though Bluestack is still in the alpha stage and not yet perfected at the moment, it still does exactly what it’s meant to do for you.
The download can be quite heavy if you’re on a slow internet connection (current version is about 117MB) but it comes pre-installed with 10 Android applications. You can add 16 more apps and it’s likely there’s going to be a pro version which might be a paid software.
It runs smoothly on 32-bit (X86) operating system and it’s strictly for Windows and I guess support for Mac OS is surely in progress. In order to make it easier for you to install more android applications on your PC, Bluestacks also developed an Android app for your mobile device called Cloud connect which allows you to sync applications from your mobile device to the Bluestacks installation on your PC wirelessly.
As mentioned earlier, this Windows “Android emulator” is in alpha stage and there has been reports of forced closes and some applications won’t sync. Another complaint is that Cloud Connect uses facebook for authorization which doesn’t seem necessary and we hope all this will be fixed soonest. Despite all these, I still think the application is great as you can even run the android apps on Windows even in full screen.

Create a shortcut or hotkey to turn desktop icons on and off

If you’ve got loads of icons cluttering up your desktop, you might want a quick way to turn them off without using the context menu, here’s a quick and easy way to make a shortcut key to turn them on or off.

Download the HideDesktopIcons application and save it somewhere else other then the desktop.

Right click and select show desktop icons

If you’re using Windows 7, all you need to do is right-click on the file and choose Pin to Taskbar or Pin to Start Menu, depending on where you want it. We’ll put it on the Start Menu so we can assign a hotkey to it.

Now you have a shortcut that can be used for quick access

To assign a hotkey, right-click on the shortcut in the Start Menu and choose Properties to assign a hotkey (I use Ctrl+Alt+D since it’s easy to remember).

Now you can access the desktop icons through a shortcut icon or shortcut key.
Supporting Files (If Needed)
If you get an error when you try to run this application, you probably need to have the Microsoft C++ runtime installed, which you can get get from the following link:

SIRI can play the piano!!!!!!

The hack, developed specifically by and for Yamaha, works by streaming a special MIDI version of the music file through an Apple Airport Express and into the Disklavier piano, which then reproduces the piece, complete with key and pedal impressions.
